Hey, we are coming up on the second Tuesday of the month.  Time to come have lunch with your old cronies.
    Tuesday, May 11th, 2010  —  Lunch
    (This is a correction,  sorry)
It will again be at the Black Bear Diner, 32065 Pacific Highway S.  and start at 11:00 or thereabouts.

The NEXT meeting, in June, will be an evening meeting at 6:00, preceded by an executive board meeting which all are encouraged to attend.  Once again, the EVENING (dinner) meeting is in JUNE… ( June 8th) NEXT month!!

Graveside services for Colleen Zimnisky, recently passed wife of KCSO retired Lieutenant Larry Zimnisky, will be at 11:00AM on May 4th, 2010.  Washelli Cemetery 11111 Aurora Ave. No.  Seattle Washington.  All family and friends are invited to meet at the family home after the services. 26421 Somerset Lane, Kent Washington. 253 854 8765. (Kent west hill, between the Midway and So. 272 exits)

On April 3, 2010, retired King County Deputy Carl Holsted passed away.  He worked for KCSO for 21 years, mainly at the SE precinct.  Carl was 75 and had been married to Faye for 51 years.  There will be a memorial service celebrating his life on May 29th, 2:00 p.m. at the Crossroads Bible Church in Bellevue.

Due to a TOTAL lack of response to Dave and Linda Bejarano’s offer to organize the annual Lake Mayfield RV get-together, anyone interested in attending should contact the resort themselves.  Lacking a group, a group rate would seem unlikely.  Several do plan on being there starting around June 10th, but nothing is organized.

John Kozar, one of our retired members brought to light a suggestion that retired officers would be valuable volunteers to monitor jail inmates’ phone calls.  In light of the events of the past several months, this might well be a valuable contribution we could each make.  Give it some thought and contact John at Kozar.J@comcast.net with your ideas.  He is working with command staff at Lacey PD to set up such a program there.

We certainly know what to listen for, can write up a good report, and might just save some current cop’s bacon.  Even a couple of 4 hour shifts a month by enough of us could have a considerable impact.

Lake Mayfield annual RV gathering reminder:

In the interest of contacting the owners of the Lake Mayfield Resort to get the best group pricing we can, Dave and Linda Bejerano have offered to be the contact.  The few that have shown interest are of a mind to start around June 10th, but as yet not enough have contacted Dave and Linda to have much bargaining power for a group rate.  If you are interested, get hold of them ASAP.. Ofc5226@aol.com  Linda05226@aol.com  They would like to contact the resort on April 25th, so drop them a line with your intentions.

Lake Mayfield, Challenge Coins, Money Clips, Westside Lunch meetings…

    Lake Mayfield:

    Fellow Members,
Well, it’s that time of year again when we start thinking of fun in the sun.  Several members have asked if we are planning to go to Lake Mayfield this summer.  We would like to plan on ten days to two weeks beginning June 10 thru approx. June 24th.  In order to get a group price quoted I need to know how many of you are interested in camping with us this year.  Please advise by April 25th if your family would like to go.  Thanks.

    Ofc5226@aol.com
    Linda05226@aol.com

    Challenge coins:

For those interested in obtaining more of the Challenge coins, I will be getting an additional 200 either Monday or Tuesday.  Of those, approximately 65 are spoken for,  going to Earl Brown in Spokane for distribution there.  Another 10 or 20 are spoken for, so I will have around 100 available.

Bob McQueen recently got his order of Money Clips and sent to me (Des Moines, WA) those that belong to the Seattle area folks. I will call and make arrangements to deliver them.  Those who wish to order Money Clips should get hold of Bob McQueen at bcmqu98092@aol.com        206-414-1781  He has to compile a minimum order before he will have more, so contact Bob to get on the list if you are going to want any.

Here we are, approaching the 2nd Tuesday of the month, time for our monthly lunch meeting.

The location is the Black Bear Diner @ 32065 Pacific Highway South, Federal Way.

11:00 —  and if you didn’t make it last month, you missed out.  Great food at reasonable prices and of course, the cameraderie.

If you got the Hot Sheet by e-mail and would like to have us take you OFF the hard copy list, we would appreciate it as it costs the association about $1 a copy..  You can either let us know at the lunch meeting or send an e-mail.

Thanks, and hope to see you there…. Gerry Drake …. sadsack@cheerful.com

–as always, we realize some of you are out of the area for the weather–

From the King County Sheriff’s Office General Information Bulletin.

Retired Deputy Steve Maxwell passed away Sunday evening, February 28th, after a hard-fought battle against an aggressive lung cancer.  He was just 57 years young, and a non-smoker.  Steve served nearly 29 years with the Sheriff’s Office, and had just recently retired on April 1, 2007.  His last assignment was as the Four Creeks Storefront Deputy in the F-2 district.

Steve’s wife Marcie, and family, are planning a memorial celebration of Steve’s life at 2 P.M. and a graveside service at 3 P.M. on Sunday, March 7th at the Greenwood Memorial Park, 350 Monroe Avenue N.E., Renton.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any memorial donations be sent to the Renton Community Foundation, Maxwell Fund for Youth & Families, P.O. Box 820, Renton, WA 98057

Major Dave Germani, Precinct 3 Commander

Received From Bob & Shirley Andrews….   Sunday, February 7th, 2010
There is no easy way to tell this but to go ahead and say IT.

WE HAVE TO CANCEL THE OLD COPS PARTY DUE TO CIRCUMSTANSES AT HOME IN LAKE TAPPS.

As you might have heard there was a shooting by the Sheriff’s department in response to a burglary at our Lake Tapps home.  Even though there is Shirley’s son is there now she is not comfortable not being there so we are leaving this afternoon to go to Washington.  It is unlikely we could return before the party so it is just better to cancel.

Please spread the word if you don’t see someone in the address section and spread the word.

There are some people I do not have an e mail address for so check the addresses and if you see that I missed someone please forward the e mail to those people as it would be really tough if they come from a long distance and we are not here.

We do not know how long the investigation will go on and we probably will not be back in time for the party.

A quick reminder to those intending to attend the WSRDSPOA lunch meeting on the second  Tuesday of the month.
It is this coming Tuesday, the 9th of February, and we are trying out a new location:

Black Bear Diner in Federal Way
    32015 Pacific Highway South
11:30 a.m. in the meeting room.

  • mary wrote a new post 14 years, 3 months ago

The last message relative to the Westside meeting somehow deleted the first line of paragraph 3.  That included the date and time.

The lunch meeting is on February 9th, 11:30, at the Black Bear Diner in Federal Way, at 32015 Pacific Highway South.

Additiionally, we are worrking at getting the ‘From:’ line to reflect MY e-mail as the sender rather than Don McCabe’s, but not as yet.  The website is not without it’s glitches, but we are progressing…

We’ve had a couple of people note that the prior message got dumped into their ‘Spam’ folder.  Most e-mail systems have a way to add the address to an approved list or merely add it to your address book to alleviate that problem.

Any questions, feel free to contact me at     sadsack@cheerful.com    Gerry Drake

This message is being sent via the WSRDSPOA website.  It is serving several purposes.  First of all, testing the site’s e-mailing capability.

The persons being sent this message are those that do, have, or are likely to attend the monthly Westside meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.

.  The address is 32015 Pacific highway South, and they have a complete menu from which to order.  It is available at http://blackbeardiner.com/menu.html and this is a move from the prior location of the Muckleshoot Casino.

If you do not want to be on this list (receive notices re: Westside meetings) just drop me an e-mail to that effect at sadsack@cheerful.com

       Gerry Drake

(another purpose is to test listed e-mail addresses, but you wouldn’t know if that failed, as you wouldn’t have gotten this message….)
