ELECTION ISSUEAs you can see from the above title this will be an election year. Several members have stepped forward to become leaders in the Association and are standing ready to fill the positions upon your vote. We would like to have your ballots back to the P.O. Box by January 20th 2015.At present, our retirement and health systems are healthy and have been untouched by those who have wished to change them for a variety of reasons in the past. Our big request is that they remain untouched. It costs no one to leave us alone. It will cost everyone a lot of money if we need a lawsuit to determine the decision to attempt to change the system.
My vacation was fantastic! While I had been to the Province of Quebec, Canada, it was the first time pulling the fifth-wheel trailer. Joyce and I had great traveling companions in long time friends Don and Lynn Rutherford. We had a bit of excitement along the way first with a mechanical failure in the Rutherford trailer that resulted from a broken rear wheel trailer spring. The spring slashed a tire. Everything worked according to plan and the spring and tire were replaced only to have the same tire flattened again. Twice! Finally a repair technician noted that the spring was still the culprit. It was the wrong spring! Needless to say that this fired Don Up! The words were flying via the internet and of course in the long run the trailer was repaired and the Rutherfords were reimbursed. Our trip continued through the Niagara Falls area and into Quebec, where we visited many local attractions and got to visit several of Joyce’s relatives. It was fun for me to watch her French language return and improve as we visited. Then on to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. We returned back through New Brunswick and into Maine and through Upper State New York. Then Don and Lynn went to visit relatives Ohio and we returned toward I-90 and home.
Not to be left out of the action our trailer broke a spring in the small city of Van Wert, Ohio. Our experience was better than Don and Lynn’s with a great mechanic and wonderful people that assisted us.
This will be our last message as your Association President and Secretary. Also, this is my last issue as editor of the Hot Sheet. We will stay involved with the association as time permits but our time is becoming increasingly limited. It’s just time for someone with a new perspective to begin.
Thanks for allowing Joyce and me to serve you.

HOT SHEET EDITOR AND REPORTERS NEEDED
The Hot Sheet editor is retiring. If you have experience in Microsoft word and/or Microsoft Publisher and have an interest in writing maybe you should step forward to help the Association. We will be here to assist and show you the way to get the Hot Sheet on the Website and to the print service for our members that are not on computers. If you have articles of interest or information that can be of interest to our members you can be of service to all of us.
We would like to build a committee of reporters and writers. Please consider contributing your time.
WARNING COMPUTER PHISHING CONTINUES
Once again the thieves are among us. This time it’s a new way to get people to give out their personal information over the internet. Several of us have received a notice from Costco informing us of “Acknowledgment of Order”.
That requests more information. Of course this was just another attempt to gain personal information. Since we knew that there were no items ordered by us we called Costco who informed us not to open the email and to immediately dispose of the message without opening it. Once I deleted the message I also deleted it from the trash file. In true fashion it was received a second time. The government, banks and other companies will NOT contact you for your identification by telephone or the internet.
Incidentally there are more and more phone calls either threatening arrests if money isn’t sent to the caller. Usually someone calls from an agency like the Internal Revenue Service advising that a warrant for arrest will be issued if money isn’t sent via an electronic service immediately. Of course the money cannot be traced or refunded after transmitted. What’s even worse is there is no way to trace the offenders.
REMEMBER LEGITIMATE BUSINESS AND THE GOVERNMENT WILL NOT CONTACT YOU FOR YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION OR TO INFORM YOU IN THIS MANNER. IT WILL BE BY MAIL AND EVEN THEN CONTACT THE AGENCY BY LOOKING UP THEIR PHONE NUMBER. NOT USING THE NUMBER THE LETTER PROVIDES.

Sumner, WA 98390
So how do I find my dues date?
In order to check your dues date, log onto the website – www.wsrdspoa.org Go to ” Howdy, (Your name)” at top right. See Dropdown window.
Go to “Edit My Profile” & Click.
Scroll down and on the left side you should see “Member Dues” & Year.
If you see 2013 or 2014 you owe dues. If you see 2015 or higher – you do not owe dues. Yes, you can pay up a few years ahead, but five or ten years is not necessary.
Besides, it does not guarantee you will live that long.
(If you have trouble logging onto the website – please email me: don.mccabe41@gmail.com

For those who still receive the Hot Sheet via US Postal Service – check the mailing label for the year of your last dues payment.
As a last resort only, you can call or email our Treasurer Tina Waddle – 253-863-9188 or tew1215@hotmail.com and she will check her records.
Now is not the time to get cut off for not paying your dues. Those who have a dues date of 2013 will be cutoff by April 15, 2015.

Pension Cuts in the 2015 Federal Spending Bill
Published on 12/20/2014
By Jerry Taylor
Retired Seattle Police Officers Assn.
There has been a lot of concern from various folks about the 2015 Federal Spending Bill just passed by Congress and signed into law by the President. The pension cuts portion of that bill does not deal with the LEOFF 1 pension plan or any other government plan but rather addresses pensions that are generated for multiple employers. i.e., pipe fitters, welders, machinists, etc. where the pension plan covers workers from several areas. The bad part of this plan is that it could cause some legislators to think they could apply the same principal to state pensions. The principal problem is that this new legislation attempts to remove contractual nature from establish plans and thus empowers the possible reduction of pension benefits for plans that could possibly be in default sometime in the future. Hopefully there will be lawsuits that will block this. |
